Petition verbiage:
Petition to the California State Parks & Recreation Commission:
Parks Commission: Remove the Plan from Your September 30th Meeting Agenda!
The Proposed General Plan for the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA) blatantly ignores the safety recommendations of CAL FIRE and presents a wildfire threat to Auburn, Cool, Foresthill and other neighboring communities. Last month in nearby Placer County, the River Fire started in a steep canyon similar to those in ASRA. The fire was human caused, started in a campground, and destroyed 142 structures. Don’t let that happen to us !!
We request the Commission remove the Plan from the agenda of September 30th meeting so an alternative can be developed with local input and that complies with CAL FIRE’s recommendations,
In addition to fire risk, other concerns that have not been addressed in the Plan include traffic, potential evacuation through the Auburn State Recreation Area, ongoing river drownings and water rescues.
